Veterans, we at Penn Foster thank you for your commitment and sacrifice in serving our country, and we honor your courage and experience. This issue of Penn Foster News is dedicated to you.
Originally known as Armistice Day, Veterans Day is the international holiday which commemorates the ending of World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. Veterans Day, also called Remembrance Day and Poppy Day in other parts of the world, honors members of the armed forces living and deceased, whether or not they have served in a conflict. Please read about your fellow student, Sgt. Donald P., who serves in the United States Marine Corps.

Student Spotlight
SGT. DONALD P. of Elmira Heights, NY
“I am currently a student taking the Business Management Associate Degree Program. I was born in Elmira, NY. After high school graduation, I enlisted in the USMC. I spent three years at 8th & I marine barracks in Washington D.C. I then spent one year in Okinawa, Japan. Nice place, by the way. I spent two further years in the inactive reserve for the Corps. I moved to Ocean Springs, Mississippi, about 60 days before hurricane Katrina demolished the area I lived in. I struggled with various side roofing jobs for about seven months. I was living in a car. Then I decided to join the Army as a Combat Engineer. After my schooling, I was selected to be a Specialized Search Dog Handler. SSD handler searches with a dog off-leash to detect explosives, explosive making material, and weapons of any sort. I then deployed to Iraq in November of 2007. My dog has done some outstanding stuff.
I started attending Penn Foster back in April of ’08. It’s the perfect situation for deployed soldiers. There is not a lot of pressure like other schools put on you. I enjoy being able to have the ability to do all my school work without access to the Internet, if I needed.”
—Sgt. Donald P.
Penn Foster is happy to report that both Sgt. Donald P. and SSD Braco recently returned from their tour in Iraq and are in Missouri.

Two Bachelor’s Degrees Now Offered
Penn Foster College recently launched two new Bachelor’s Degree programs, Business Management and Criminal Justice. “Offering B.S. programs is a logical extension of our mission statement,” said Dr. Richard Ferrin, President of Penn Foster College. “The institution has been receiving requests for advanced degree offers for years,” he added. “Students interested in the Bachelor’s programs will have the same affordable, accessible, and flexible education as our Associate Degree students.” The college has exclusively offered Associate Degrees for more than 30 years.
The Bachelor’s Degrees are completion programs; students must have an Associate Degree or a minimum of 60 college credits from Penn Foster or another accredited institution. Students without the minimum requirements can enroll in Penn Foster’s Associate Degree programs and then transfer their credits to the Bachelor’s program. Penn Foster College has more than 24,000 active students worldwide. The Bachelor’s Degrees are ideal for those who have family and employment obligations making on-site attendance difficult. Penn Foster also offers individual financial plans to match students’ needs and financial resources. To learn more, go to: www.pennfostercollege.edu.

“Penn Foster and eLearners Award Scholarships through Project Working Mom 2”
“The availability of online learning is indispensable in the harried times we face each day and this provides a perfect opportunity for those of us who are already working full-time jobs, have children, and strive to be a valuable part of the community.”
—Tracy Shepherd
Penn Foster College has teamed with eLearners.com and four other online schools to support Project Working Mom 2, an energetic program which awards working mothers an opportunity to advance their education with full tuition scholarships from the online school of their choosing. “Project Working Mom” believes that online education is the answer to the hectic lives of working mothers, single or married, who just need the opportunity to earn their degree but can’t go to an on-campus college because of time, family, or job constraints.

Penn Foster Job Board... Another Happy Employer |
|
Bobbi K. Operations Manager of Crossover Medical Technology, Inc. had this to say about recruiting employees through the Penn Foster job board, “Your job posting service has been a tremendous help to me and my company! For the past three months, I have been posting job openings on various websites, paying hundreds of dollars for some, using current employees, friends, and relatives to recruit for me, and literally have received three qualified responses. In the approximately 36 hours since sending you my posting information, I have received 10 resumes from good, quality candidates. There is a good chance that I may be able to use all 10 of these folks in the very near future. I just wanted to say thank you so much for your help!” To reach qualified applicants, send your job openings to: JobPostings@pennfoster.edu.
