ERIC G. of Ali Al Salem, Kuwait
“I dropped out of high school halfway through because my mother was hit by a car. So I had to go to work and help with the bills. I deployed to Iraq when I was 19 and that is where I completed my High School Diploma through Penn Foster. I then went to Kuwait, and I am getting my Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. I don’t get any days off, and I work 12 to 14 hours a day. I study before work each morning.” Read more...

New FASHION MERCHANDISING
Associate Degree Offered
Penn Foster College has launched a new Associate Degree in Fashion Merchandising. The new program covers the many functional areas of fashion merchandising, including fashion promotion, textiles, retail management, marketing, buying, and merchandising. Graduates of the program will have the necessary skills to seek employment in the fields of merchandising, sales management, marketing, e-commerce, and retailing.
According to an article on WorldWideLearn.com, “The glamour and creativity of a career in fashion design draw many people to the industry, making the field particularly competitive, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Internships and education can help prospective designers break in. Average salaries for fashion designers are just under $56,000, although no career training program can guarantee future earnings or job placement. Salaries do vary widely, with the lowest 10 percent earning lower than $28,000 and the highest 10 percent netting more than $112,000.”
Interested students should consider the fact that more than two-thirds of fashion designers are employed in either New York or California before deciding on a new career. For more information visit our Fashion Merchandising Degree.
